ATOL: See our regulatory section, specifically the Air Traffic Organisers License. TTA also offer the T-ATOL. This provides cover for up to 20,000 flights per year. For TTA members it comes as a significantly lower cost than the ATOL.
Back Office: The parts of the business that do not predomianately deal directly with the customer. A more detailed definition is given in back office operations. Also see front office definition for context.
Broker: See the description in Brokers, Flight Consolidators.
Communications Channel: You probably need to understand how your potetial customers get their information about holidays and travel. Whatever the customer uses to get their information is their communications channel. Examples could be using the internet search engines like Google or specific magazines and press publications? Another example would be a referal or recommendation from a friend. They are all communications channels
Demographic: This words annoys me, but I don't know a better alternative, so the term creeps into our vocabulary. If you want to target or select a potion of the population on the social statistics, then that is a demographic targetting. For example, if you are targetting the 18 to 24 years olds, then that is a 18 to 24 year old demographic targetting.
Dynamic Packaging: Creating a specific package for the customer from different suppliers. For example, a package with a flight from one supplier and accommodation from another is a dynamic package. As the names suggests, a dynamic package is a specific type of travel package. It therefore has specific regulatory implications as covered in European Package Travel Regulation (PTR) and ATOL regulation.
Fixed Costs: The costs that your business will incur regardless of how much business you do. One example is office space. A full explanation is given in the section on business operating costs.
Flight Consolidator: See the description in Brokers, Flight Consolidators.
Front Office: The parts of a business that predominately deal with customers. A more detailed definition is given in front office operations. Also see back office for context.
Homeworker / Homeworking. A business designed to be run from home, typically by one person. The TTA homeworking model enables marketing and sales to be run from home by the home worker. The back office functions are then handled by TTA. Also see TTA Homeworking for more information on this offer.
Package: A package is a booking that involves two or more travel elements eg a flight and a hotel, or a hotel and car hire. Any booking for a single item, for example a flight only booking, is not package. Whether a travel booking is a package or not has significant regulatory implications, as described in European Package Travel Regulation (PTR)
Pre-packaging: Creating a package which includes a flight bought directly from an airline or ticket provider.
Proposition: Usually used to mean the customer proposition, ie the term coevers everything that the business does for the customer. Also see the section on Travel Market and It's Customers for a more detail.
